Orange’s Best Wines

In light of The Orange Wine Festival that takes place every October, we have put together a list of the best wines from right here in Orange.

October is one of our favourite months. It’s when Orange Wine Festival takes place, enticing visitors from far and wide to experience our beautiful Orange wineries and sample their finest drops. So in the spirit of wine month and with a high likelihood that Orange winery tours will be out of the question this for this year’s event, we’ve put together a handy list of Orange’s best wines. If you can’t visit these Orange wineries in person in October, don’t be disheartened! The good news is that many offer deliveries. And if you’re looking for Orange winery accommodation for when you can visit us next, we’d love to host you here at Lakeview Luxury Retreat.

Heifer Station Wines

You might recognise Heifer Station Wines by their quirky bottles, fittingly featuring a watercolour heifer peering out from the side of the label. Heifer Station wines produces award-winning Shiraz along with Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Merlot. It’s one of the most popular Orange wineries due to its beautiful, rustic cellar door in an old wool shed. Most of their wine is only available through their cellar door, website or wine club, so if you’re tired of perusing the same old selection at your local bottle store, jump on the Heifer Station Wines website today.

Borrodell Estate

Sorry, but you have to visit us here in Orange to sample the wines at Borrodell Estate. Sitting at an altitude of over 1000 metres above sea level, Borrodell is one of Australia’s highest vineyards. And not only do you get a magnificent view from Mount Canobolas, but you get to try the incredible wines while you’re here. Borrodells cellar door offers Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and more. And if you’re looking for Orange winery accommodation, you can either stay on site at the Estate or visit us here at Lakeview Luxury Retreat, just ten minutes’ drive away.

Philip Shaw Wines

Philip Shaw is definitely one of our most famous Orange wineries.  Their Pinot Noir is consistently applauded, with its 2019 No. 8 winning the Australia Post Trophy for Best Pinot Noir in the 2020 NSW Wine Awards. Philip Shaw vineyard and cellar door is located in Koomooloo, again just a ten-minute drive from our Orange accommodation—but you can also join their wine club or make an order online. Hot tip: They currently have a deal for a ‘lockdown dozen’ which includes free shipping!

Printhie Wines

If you’ve got a special occasion approaching or you just love your bubbles, you’ll want to make sure you know about Printhie Wines! Printhie has won the award for the best sparkling in NSW the last three years in a row, so they’re clearly doing something right! So what’s the secret to their award-winning sparkling ‘Swift’ brand? Their website reveals it’s a combination of exceptional winemaking, cool climate craftsmanship and the luxury of time. And you’re dreaming of Orange winery tours, Printhie does this right too. Their Orange winery tours offerings include a sparkling masterclass, helicopter tour or a delightful Printhie picnic.

Tamburlaine Wines

Tamburlaine crafts award-winning organic wines while limiting their impact on the environment. And if this isn’t reason enough to give them a try, you can also purchase a ‘case for a cause’, with $50 of your spend donated to your choice of one of seven worthy causes. And not only are they one of the most ethical and environmentally-friendly Orange wineries, but their wines are truly outstanding, The Tamburlaine reds are traditionally show-stoppers, but their Pinot Gris is equally worth a try.
